Welcome Message
Welcome BFS students, parents, and visitors!

Busan Foreign School is truly the Jewel of Busan, offering families the only American based curriculum in the vibrant city of Busan, South Korea. We strive toward providing an outstanding education to our students from nursery to grade 12 in a rigorous, yet personal atmosphere; preparing them for entrance to top-tiered universities in the U.S. and throughout the world. In fact, we are the only school in Busan successfully sending students to U.S. colleges and universities for over ten years. To better serve our students and families, this fall we will break ground for a new state-of-the-arts facility containing a new gymnasium, theater, cafeteria, science and computer labs, classrooms, offices, conference rooms, parent organization room, and landscaped terraces and outdoor spaces.
Busan Foreign School, accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), is located in the beautiful Haeundae New Town area of Busan. This area is one of the most attractive in Korea as it provides breathtaking mountain scenery, beautiful sandy beaches, and abundant public services and entertainment that are commonly found in North America. Furthermore, the Haeundae New Town area is well known for its extremely inviting and friendly community, accommodating to all cultures. (BFS Handbook)
To meet parents’ high expectations, Busan Foreign School’s mission is to ensure each student, from nursery to 12th grade, receives a world-class education in an international environment. To meet this goal, we have high expectations for our educators; seeking highly qualified teachers dedicated to creating dynamic learning environments with high standards for teaching and learning. Committed to lifelong-learning, BFS provides teachers ongoing support for professional development to stay abreast of research-based best practices.
Our comprehensive academic curriculum, based on U.S. National Standards, ensures that every student is intellectually challenged to achieve his or her greatest potential. Our elementary program provides students a solid foundation in the basic skills of reading, writing, mathematics, social studies and science; using data to identify where students are and then differentiating instruction by taking into account students’ learning styles and needs. In addition to the core areas, specialty classes (art, physical education, music, technology) enrich our students’ school day. Our BFS Elementary After School Program includes many exciting clubs: Lego Robotics, computer, French, Scrabble, soccer, ball hockey, drama, dance, chorus, school newspaper, music, pen-pals, yearbook, student council, Korean language, and ELL!
Our rigorous Advanced Placement (AP) program in the high school is growing each year and offers our students the chance to earn college credits in many universities throughout the world before they leave high school. Graduates of BFS have gone on to continue their education at some of the most prestigious universities in the world. Recent alumni have either attended or been accepted to the University of Notre Dame, University of Michigan, University of Southern California, University of North Carolina, Boston College, Boston University, University of California at San Diego, New York University, University of Illinois, University of Wisconsin Madison, University of Washington, and University of British Columbia — to name just a few.
To enrich our secondary students holistically, Busan Foreign School offers a variety of electives throughout the day, as well as curricular and co-curricular programs and interscholastic academic and athletic activities. The school participates in an interscholastic league, the South Korean Athletic Conference (SKAC), fielding competitive middle and high school sports teams, as well as a Model U.N., Spelling Bee, and Science Fair/Invention Convention. The BFS Student Council, Yearbook, the National Honor Society, and our International Community Service Project, provide students with leadership training and development, as they organize social events, fundraise for various causes, and volunteer to improve the school, the local community, and the global community.
Whether you are looking for a great school for your kids, exploring work opportunities, or just visiting, we welcome you to visit us on our website and/or to stop by Busan Foreign School for a visit in person. We are proud of our school and I am confident you will feel a sense of community, passion, and commitment to a common purpose: to provide a world-class education for our students.
