Iain Macfarlane, Principal of Busan Foreign School, is excited to join BFS during its 20th Anniversary.  He has extensive international work experience as an administrator and is coming to BFS after working in Kuwait for the past eight years.

A teacher at heart, Iain loves working with students, parents and teachers to create a community environment where all members embrace diversity and strive for excellence.  When he is not working, Iain loves spending time with his wife and son, both of whom will be members of the BFS family this year.

Mr. Macfarlane is a Proud Member of The School Superintendent’s Association, Association for Childhood Education International, Association for Education Communications and Technology and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Lauren Harvey has been an educator for over fifteen years in a variety of leadership and teaching positions in Indiana and Korea. She is an experienced teacher, teacher educator, and educational program administrator. As Vice Principal, Mrs. Harvey is responsible for curriculum and instruction, teacher mentoring and professional development, course and activities scheduling, and student discipline. Mrs. Harvey holds an Indiana Professional Educator’s License, a Master’s degree in Education from Indiana University, and she is studying educational leadership in Purdue University’s online Building Level Administrator License program. She looks forward to coordinating with the new Principal Iain Macfarlane and Glenn Saunders, Director of Admissions and College Counseling, to ensure high-quality, inclusive teaching and learning at BFS.

Mr. Saunders will be starting his tenth year at Busan Foreign School as the Director of Admissions & College Counseling and is looking forward to the exciting opportunities the new BFS facility will offer for the coming school year. 

After graduating from Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York with a B.A. in Social Studies, his first career path took him to Washington, D.C. where he worked in the U.S. Congress as a legislative assistant and assistant press secretary. While in Washington, D.C. he pursued his graduate degree earning an M.A. in Political Science from American University. After trying his hand at the federal level of government, Mr. Saunders returned to his home state of Massachusetts where he was chief of staff for a state senator at the State House in Boston. He eventually left the political world to enter the world of business as a manager of major corporate accounts for Akamai Technologies based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. 

Mr. Saunders discovered his passion for teaching and education when he began volunteering at the Boston Area Red Cross where he taught history and civics to adults on the path to U.S.citizenship. Mr. Saunders began his career transition into education over ten years ago as he became a certified high school social studies teacher in the state of Massachusetts. He taught in the western suburbs of Boston before throwing his hat into the international teaching ring ten years ago and landed here at Busan Foreign School.

Ms. Allepuz, a native of Barcelona (Spain), is starting her fourth year at Busan Foreign School and looking forward to letting the world know about Busan Foreign School. After graduating from Brussels (Belgium) she started working for an American consultancy firm while pursuing her masters in international management. Ms. Allepuz further developed managing complex projects, working within intercultural teams, coaching, and training staff in customer service organizations while becoming an expert in a in a wide array of industries like utilities, banking, logistics for highly professional and reputable companies, such as,ABN AMRO Bank, DHL and APM Terminals to name a few. Having lived and worked on three continents and being a mother of four children (three of them attending BFS), she knows how important the school community is for expatriate parents as well as how critical it is for parents to understand what the school they are sending their children to is truly all about. Ms. Allepuz is fluent in Spanish, English, French and Italian. She is looking forward to seeing BFS grow in the hearts of its parents, students, teachers, and broader community, as well as solidifying BFS’ image as the American international school of choice for the English speaking community of Busan.

Ellen Fox is happy to introduce herself as the Student Academic Support Services Coordinator and School Counselor at Busan Foreign School. This is her third year at BFS, 11th year in the field of education.

Ms. Fox grew up in Middleton, Wisconsin and Heidelberg, Germany. Ms. Fox graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she received her undergraduate degree in History. Ms. Fox then went on to graduate school at Edgewood College and received her teaching credentials from Edgewood College, in Madison, Wisconsin. In Wisconsin, she had been a Special Education teacher and District Mentor for 9 years. Ms. Fox has taught sixth, seventh and eighth grade at MCPASD, with the bulk of those 9 years of experience spent happily at the middle school level. At BFS she enjoys working with all grade levels of students, families and staff PK3-12. Ms. Fox is really enjoying her role in encouraging all the children to strive for their personal best. She is thrilled to be working with the students, teachers, administrators, and parents whom she so highly regards. Ms. Fox believes that providing learning opportunities through a variety of life experiences for all students is crucial for learning and creating an equal and fair environment in school. Ms. Fox’s spare time is spent with her two wonderful children traveling, volunteering in the community, hiking, spending time with family and friends.

Patrick Galles is joining BFS this year as the Shark Athletic Director and Physical Education Teacher (K-12). Mr. Galles comes to BFS after spending a little more than two decades teaching and leading programs in Tokyo (as Athletic Director and PE Teacher) at an American International School quite similar in size and scope to BFS.  Originally from the state of Iowa in the U.S., Pat and his family have called northern Minnesota home since 1996, where, along with his siblings and parents operate an international summer camp program during the summer holidays for international and American students. Pat is very excited to join the school and serve the BFS students and the entire Shark community!!

Grant Zwingelberg was born and raised in the beautiful city of Juneau, Alaska surrounded by mountains on one side and ocean on the other.  In this unique setting, accessed only by boat and airplane, Mr. Zwingelberg thrived in outdoor activities, such as, hiking, kayaking, sailing, snowboarding, and ice climbing.  He also grew up playing basketball, baseball, and soccer. Mr. Zwingelberg is a positive person with a good sense of humor who tries to look at the bright side of life’s challenges. This is Mr. Zwingelberg’s third year at Busan Foreign School. He previously spent 3 years teaching in Mongolia.

Doug Dysart was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He attended Oklahoma State University, where he majored in History and Philosophy, and then going on to Saint Louis University with an emphasis in Historical Research. He participated in study abroad in England at Keele University, and went through a teaching certification program at the University of Missouri- Saint Louis. He has six years of teaching experience, having two years in rural Alaska teaching Middle and High School Social Studies, Astronomy, and Psychology, and two years teaching High School Earth Science and Conceptual Physics in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and two years here at Busan Foreign School, teaching Middle School Science, Astronomy and Robotics. His main academic interests are in exploring the connection between science and history, rocketry and space sciences, and biological development over time. In his free time he enjoys reading, traveling, working on computers and making things. He is excited to be continuing to teach in Korea at BFS, sharing his love of science and making things with students.

Meghan Leland joins Busan Foreign School from Bozeman, Montana, where she was born and raised. After graduating with honors, earning a bachelor’s degree in English with dual emphases in Literature and Teaching as well as a minor in Art History from the University of Montana in Missoula, Ms. Leland moved back to Bozeman to live with her parents and work as a substitute teacher for two years before moving to Busan. This year will be Ms. Leland’ s fourth year at Busan Foreign School , where she will teach AP Language and Composition, American Works, Senior English and Communications.

The opportunity to continue crafting her life in Busan excites Ms Leland. She looks most forward to expanding both her professional and personal experience and utilizing those experiences, as well as the experiences of her students and colleagues, to create an engaged, trusting learning community and encourage the success of her students as they develop into confident, lifelong learners.

Mr. Chapa is in his third year teaching at BFS. He graduated from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo USA, where he served as principal saxophonist for the university Symphonic Band and conductor/drum major for Marching Band. Mr. Chapa continues to perform as saxophonist for the Big Face Jazz Orchestra in Busan.

At BFS Mr. Chapa serves as faculty adviser for the National Honors Society and runs several after school elementary music clubs. He is also a member of the Korea International Music Educators Association allowing students to attend festivals alongside other international schools all over Korea. During his time at BFS Mr. Chapa has taught a wide variety of music classes including elementary music, guitar, jazz band, and music technology. In his spare time Mr. Chapa enjoys cooking, learning new languages, and Skyping with friends at home.

Hilary Dysart is excited to start her third year as the Pre-Kindergarten 3 teacher at Busan Foreign School. She was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, but has spent time living in rural Alaska as well as a small town in Southeastern Missouri. While attending the University of Missouri-St. Louis, she took many education classes. Mrs. Dysart has over ten years of experience working with children of all ages, but she really adores seeing how much the youngest BFS Sharks learn and grow throughout the course of a school year.

In her free time, Mrs. Dysart likes spending time with her husband, the middle school science teacher at BFS, playing with her cat named Yomi-Mandu, playing board games, traveling, and exploring the wonderful city that is Busan.

Aimee Demers comes to BFS to begin her sixteenth year teaching and is excited to join the Early Childhood team as this year’s K4 teacher. Aimee was born in Providence, Rhode Island and raised in Los Angeles, California. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies with Emphasis in Education, specialization in Child Development, and Multiple Subjects California Teaching Credential from San Diego State University, and has a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology. After teaching Kindergarten in San Diego, California for five years, Aimee ventured overseas to teach in international schools and has taught in London, Shanghai, Tokyo, and Mumbai. Aimee enjoys sharing her passion for teaching and love for learning with her students, and happily considers the Early Childhood learning space her home away from home.

Aimee and her partner come to South Korea with their baby daughter and are thrilled to be living in Busan. Aimee loves the outdoors, long train trips, exploring nature, hiking, rollerblading, and spending time with her family and friends across the globe. Aimee feels fortunate to be a part of the BFS community and is looking forward to many new experiences shared with her new colleagues and her K4 class and their families this school year.

Courtney Petersen is from Mediapolis, Iowa. Throughout her studies, she developed a passion for language and culture. Traveling is one of her favorite hobbies. Throughout college, she was able to work with children in southern Germany, attend a university in Puerto Rico and do her student teaching at an American international school in Chennai, India, where she realized that she wanted international teaching to be a part of her future. Courtney graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with degrees in teaching Spanish and TESOL. She will be teaching high school Spanish 1 and 2 this year and will co-teach literacy in Kindergarten and 1st grade as English Language Support as she enters into her 2nd year at Busan Foreign School.

Ms. Joo was born in Oxford, Ohio and raised in Busan, Korea. She attended Bowling Green State University in Ohio, where she majored in Fine Art and Education. While she was in her undergraduate, she taught at local kindergarten and Toledo Museum of Art for two years. She returns to Busan and joined BFS this year as teacher, where she graduated in 2009. In her free time, Ms. Joo enjoys dancing, art, and music! She is excited to teach at BFS and sharing her love of Art and be creative with students.

Miss Sterr is joining the BFS team from a small town in Southeastern Wisconsin and has been working with primary-age students for the past 7 years as a photographer, tutor, Au Pair, and teacher. She recently taught in Doha, Qatar, and has also lived abroad in Prague. In her free time, Amber enjoys running, hiking, exploring, traveling, problem solving, decorating and playing with her new kitten, 부츠 / Bucheu (which means boots).

Mrs. Virgen came to Korea from Phoenix, Arizona a year ago. She received a duel degree in elementary and special education from Grand Canyon University. This will be Mrs. Virgen second year teaching 3rd grade at BFS. In the 2014/2015 school year she taught 3rd grade at a school in school in Arizona. Mrs. Virgen lived in Ireland for a year as a child but grew up in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. She loves to travel to new places, exercise, hang out with friends, and go to church. Mrs. Virgen is so excited to share her love for learning with her new students. Mrs. Virgen and her husband, Alam Virgen, are excited to live in Korea for a second year. Mr. Virgen will be returning as the high school math teacher at BFS.

Shortly after having lived her formative years in New York, Laurie Neeno discovered the joys of travel both in the US and abroad. One of her first passions and studies was in theater and she later moved into the educational field. Her love of creative expression in written word and performance play has served her well in the classroom and led her to becoming a school librarian for a time. Mrs. Neeno has taught both in the US (in Oregon and Arizona), and overseas in such diverse places as Bolivia, Taiwan, Kuwait, Brazil, Qatar, Morocco and Egypt.

Mrs. Neeno is very excited to be part of the faculty at BFS, teaching in 4th Grade, and is thoroughly enjoying the adventure of living in Busan along with her husband, Tim Neeno, who also teaches at the school.

Sarah Sánchez Armstrong joins BFS from Colorado and the southwestern US, where her family has been rooted for many generations. Sarah has over 15 years of experience in management, instruction, and leadership having served as a Ski School Director, a certified Ski and Snowboard Instructor, a River Guide Instructor Trainer, a Volunteer Ski Patroller, and a Representative on the Hesperus Ski Patrol Board of Directors. She has traveled extensively and is deeply passionate about multicultural education, linguistics, and cross cultural empathy. Sarah has taught high school Spanish (levels 2-4) at a Project Based Learning charter high school, Adult Conversational Spanish, and College Preparatory Spanish for underprivileged youth. She looks forward to bringing her passion for education approached through creativity, rigor, and real world applications to the students and community of BFS.

Throughout college, she was able to work with children in southern Germany, attend a university in Puerto Rico and do her student teaching at an American international school in Chennai, India, where she realized that she wanted international teaching to be a part of her future. Courtney graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with degrees in teaching Spanish and TESOL. She will be teaching high school Spanish 1 and 2 this year and will co-teach literacy in Kindergarten and 1st grade as English Language Support as she enters into her 2nd year at Busan Foreign School.

While she was in her undergraduate, she taught at local kindergarten and Toledo Museum of Art for two years. She returns to Busan and joined BFS this year as teacher, where she graduated in 2009. Ms. Hwang has taught art for the students of Busan Foreign School for eleven years now. Originally from a small town in South Mississippi and the first member of her family to attend college, Mrs. Muhammad earned her undergraduate degree in physics from University of Mississippi and her Masters of Arts in Teaching from University of Memphis. Directly following college, Mrs. Muhammad joined Teach for America and taught Special Education at a large urban inner city school in Memphis, Tennessee. Upon completion of her two year commitment with Teach For America, Mrs. Muhammad joined the founding team at a new charter school in Memphis, TN, Freedom Preparatory Academy. After spending five years as Special Education Director and Dean of Students at Freedom Prep Charter School, Mrs. Muhammad was asked to lead the charge in Freedom Prep’s expansion into elementary education. She became the Founding Head of School for Freedom Prep Charter School- Westwood Campus. Mrs. Muhammad is excited about joining the team at BFS and looks forward to working with the wonderful students and families.

In her free time Mrs. Muhammad likes to read, catch up on her favorite TV shows, spend time with her husband and dogs, Mo and Polo. A fun fact about Mrs. Muhammad is her and her husband, Rabb, will welcome their first child in January 2017.

Amy Wesen is the new librarian at Busan Foreign School. She was born and raised in Bozeman, Montana and is a 2008 graduate of Montana State University. She spent her student teaching experience in Gisborne, New Zealand. After graduation, she worked as the Lead Tutor for CampFire USA in Phoenix, Arizona. She moved back to Bozeman where she spent four years working at a K-8 rural school as the After School Program teacher and Paraprofessional focused on teaching students with special needs. She spent one year teaching middle school in Miles City, Montana for 7th and 8th graders in Life and Earth Science. Amy completed her Library Media endorsement through online courses at Montana State University in 2015. She spent last school year as a substitute teacher in the Bozeman schools for Kindergarten through High School. The opportunity to work in South Korea as a librarian at Busan Foreign School is a wonderful opportunity and Amy is thrilled to experience a new school environment and meet and foster relationships with students and staff members.

Amy is an avid reader and has a passion for the outdoors. She relishes downhill skiing, backpacking, camping and is an avid hiker. She looks forward to learning to surf. Doug Dysart was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He has six years of teaching experience, having two years in rural Alaska teaching Middle and High School Social Studies, Astronomy, and Psychology, and two years teaching High School Earth Science and Conceptual Physics in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and two years here at Busan Foreign School, teaching Middle School Science, Astronomy and Robotics. His main academic interests are in exploring the connection between science and history, rocketry and space sciences, and biological development over time.

In his free time he enjoys reading, traveling, working on computers and making things. He is excited to be continuing to teach in Korea at BFS, sharing his love of science and making things with students.

After receiving her B. S. degree from Cornell University in Environmental Studies, Ms. Branch moved to Oregon. She first worked for the U. S. Forest Service in Fire and Erosion Control. Next she worked as the Science and Environmental Education Specialist for Lane Education Services district serving Lane County, Oregon. After serving as the President of the Environmental Education Association of Oregon, she founded her own business in Educational Consulting. Years later, after studying at Gonzaga University in Washington State, she was granted a Masters degree in Administration and Curriculum Design. She went on to teach science and math at several school districts in eastern Washington State. For the last 14 years, Ms. Branch and her husband Mr. Branch have lived on Orcas Island. While there, Ms. Branch first worked for Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission as the director of the Moran Outdoor School. Later she taught math and sciences at the Orcas Island School district (grades 6-12) which included such courses as Marine Science, Farming and Sustainability for Teens (FEAST), Algebra, Environmental Sciences, Biology, Marine Technology and a college course in Oceanography with University of Washington credit. For the past 2 ½ years, she served in a governmental job as the Marine Programs Specialist helping to guide Environmental policy in the San Juan Islands of Washington State. Together, she and Mr. Branch (an Industrial Designer, who has worked as a classroom aide and substitute teacher on Orcas, and earlier taught ESL and Forestry Lab and Field classes at University in Brazil) also founded and directed the Orcas Island Youth Conservation Corps. “I am so excited to be here in my very first international teaching job! Busan is beautiful, and I can’t wait to get started”, says Ms. Branch.

The opportunity to continue crafting her life in Busan excites Ms Leland. Hailing from rural Pennsylvania, Megan Boyle’s path to teaching began in 2008 when she went to college in New Hampshire to get her degree in English Teaching from the University of New Hampshire. Here, she also received minors in Deaf Studies and Environmental Conservation. She studied abroad in London during her junior year, where she took drama, art, and literature classes. After graduating with honors from UNH in 2012, Miss Boyle worked in a small town in New Hampshire, teaching high school English for three years. In 2015, she moved to Austria, where she worked as a Resident Assistant and teacher at the American International School Salzburg for one year. She has traveled much of Europe and the continental US, and is looking forward to the chance to explore some of Asia throughout her time at BFS. This year, she will be teaching Senior English, American Literature, Contemporary Literature Through Film, and Critical Reading and Writing. She looks forward to working with her students to create well-rounded, articulate global citizens.

In his free time, he enjoys jogging, soccer, tennis, and volleyball. Every year, teachers are allowed to get new pictures taken for the school website, however, Mr. Lee always declines because he likes the way his hair looks in his old picture.

This is Mr. Neeno’s 15th year of teaching abroad, having taught in Bolivia, Taiwan, Kuwait, Brazil, Qatar & Egypt, as well as the Navajo Reservation, Phoenix, Arizona, and the Oregon Coast. Mr. Neeno am originally from Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in the Midwest until he discovered the joys of exploring the world. Mr. Neeno remains a student of history, as well as science, music, and religion. He enjoys writing, having written articles for magazines and encyclopedias. Mr. Neeno is currently working on collecting my researches and blogs about the places we have traveled to into a book. In the classroom He stresses debate, as it it teaches research skills, reasoning, team work, and backing up what you say with evidence. He has coached teams in Kuwait to victories in debate competitions in the Middle East, as well as Model UN, and Academic Games/Quiz Bowl.

In his spare time Mr. Neeno loves nothing more than exploring nature, or cities that you can walk around in; and getting to know new cultures and new experiences. Mr. Neeno also loves science fiction/fantasy literature, and has recently discovered the addictive joys of the Game of Thrones books!

Sarah Sánchez Armstrong joins BFS from Colorado and the southwestern US, where her family has been rooted for many generations. Sarah has over 15 years of experience in management, instruction, and leadership having served as a Ski School Director, a certified Ski and Snowboard Instructor, a River Guide Instructor Trainer, a Volunteer Ski Patroller, and a Representative on the Hesperus Ski Patrol Board of Directors. She has traveled extensively and is deeply passionate about multicultural education, linguistics, and cross cultural empathy. Sarah has taught high school Spanish (levels 2-4) at a Project Based Learning charter high school, Adult Conversational Spanish, and College Preparatory Spanish for underprivileged youth. She looks forward to bringing her passion for education approached through creativity, rigor, and real world applications to the students and community of BFS.

Heejin Lee started to join BFS as a high school tutor and a member of the BFS Community, working as a part of the SASS Team for the past 5 and a half years. She has experience in various educational areas and different age groups from kindergarteners to adults with focus on ESL and Math for over 15 years. Although she majored in science, she was so interested in different languages and cultures that it led her to get more than 13 certificates from the Global Citizenship Education organized by BFIC where she was a voluntary Korean teacher and support. She is currently doing her master’s for Korean Education and working as a research assistant at the Science Department of PKNU as a translator and vice-editor.

She looks most forward to meeting BFS families as a new HS Korean teacher and is very excited to support our students’ growth emotionally, socially as well as academically. Ms. L loves to admire the beauty of nature by taking photos and strolling along the beach or in the forest in her free time.

Ken Morrison is an Apple Distinguished Educator who has been invited to speak at two Apple Distinguished Educator Institutes for The Asia Pacific Region. He was also one of 365 educators to be invited to 2014 & 2016 Global Education Institutes hosted by Apple. Mr. Morrison taught new media technology and video classes at Korean universities for 11 semesters and was an active presenter at university educational conference. He also helped design and teach summer curriculum for a global leadership and dreams program for Yonsei University and Samsung. Mr. Morrison worked closely with the the organizers of the 2015 World Water Forum which was hosted in Korea and has lead corporate training for Raytheon and Chevrolet.

Before moving to Korea, Mr. Morrison produced television commercials for seven years. During his university years, he did internships each summer. These internships included on-camera news reporting for an NBC station and helping the graphic team for all home St. Louis Cardinal baseball broadcasts during the summer of 1998.Both of Mr. Morrison’s parents were teachers and he credits his success to a team of great teachers who helped him find his passion in direction in high school. He enjoys both teaching and helping other BFS teachers wisely integrate technology into their classroom to help students learn in meaningful ways.

A long way from his home in Sewanee, Tennessee, Mr. Huffman is excited to team up with BFS to teach the middle school coding elective in the spring semester! Having been a lifelong gamer, Mr. Huffman began his coding education at Macalester College in 2009 and four years later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science. He worked as a software developer in Minneapolis, Minnesota for two years, volunteering as an ESL teacher in his spare time. He enjoyed teaching and learning about other cultures so much that in 2015 he decided to pursue a career in education abroad, and spent a year working as a Resident Assistant at an American international boarding school in Salzburg, Austria. In September of 2016, he spent a month obtaining his CELTA teaching ESL to young adults in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Seeking work as an English teacher, he moved to Busan, South Korea. And like true love, the opportunity to teach middle schoolers how to code came to him when he wasn’t looking for it. He is delighted to combine his passion and professional experience to teach the coding elective in the spring!
In his spare time, Mr. Huffman is an avid gamer and a cook. He is currently trying to learn how to speak and cook Korean.

Dr. Kim has been a member of the Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra and the Chicago City Symphony Orchestra in America. Dr. Kim held a graduate faculty position at the American Conservatory of Music from 1997-2004. She is a current member of the Chicago Federation of Musicians and a member of the American Federation of Musicians since 1995. This is her eleventh year working at BFS.

Mr. Chapa is joining us for his fourth year at BFS. Mr. Chapa has taught a wide range of music classes and clubs during his time at BFS and looks forward to continue teaching elementary music this year. Originally from Lapeer Michigan Mr. Chapa graduated from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo USA with a bachelors degree in Music Education.

In his spare time Mr. Chapa continues to perform professionally as a jazz saxophonist throughout Korea.

Ms. Hwang has taught art for the students of Busan Foreign School for eleven years now. She teaches a gamut of art classes from visual concepts to Early Childhood onto theory and visual communications for High school students. Art provides students with the means to pursue practical applications of art productions in a variety of media, within the contexts of critical thinking and broad social perspectives, in this day of age. This composed of courses in drawing, painting, sculpture, print media, intermediate design, and critical theory.

Amy Wesen is the new librarian at Busan Foreign School. She was born and raised in Bozeman, Montana and is a 2008 graduate of Montana State University. She spent her student teaching experience in Gisborne, New Zealand. After graduation, she worked as the Lead Tutor for CampFire USA in Phoenix, Arizona. She moved back to Bozeman where she spent four years working at a K-8 rural school as the After School Program teacher and Paraprofessional focused on teaching students with special needs. She spent one year teaching middle school in Miles City, Montana for 7th and 8th graders in Life and Earth Science. Amy completed her Library Media endorsement through online courses at Montana State University in 2015. She spent last school year as a substitute teacher in the Bozeman schools for Kindergarten through High School. The opportunity to work in South Korea as a librarian at Busan Foreign School is a wonderful opportunity and Amy is thrilled to experience a new school environment and meet and foster relationships with students and staff members.

Amy is an avid reader and has a passion for the outdoors. She relishes downhill skiing, backpacking, camping and is an avid hiker. She looks forward to learning to surf. Excited for her first year at BFS, Amy hopes to instill in students a love for reading and an appreciation for the lifetime resources a library offers.

Angela Suk was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. After teaching English as a Second Language for 4 years in Canada and Korea, she moved to Australia to pursue her Masters in Teaching, working and studying in the education field. She worked with grades 5, 6 and 7 while there. She then moved to Kuwait to teach at the American School of Kuwait. During her eight years there, she taught grade 4 and 5 and taught in the upper elementary computer lab. She is a Google Certified Teacher and has attended conferences in Muscat, Oman, Mumbai, India and in Kuwait.

In her free time, Angela enjoys camping, hiking, reading and cooking for family and friends. She also enjoys traveling to new cultures and exploring new areas with her family. She hopes to engage her students to become risk takers in a safe and supportive environment.

Maureen O’Brien will be teaching high school English as a Second Language (ESL). She also hope to assist with cross country. This desire reflects her passion for running, hiking and walking. Mrs. O’Brien comes to Busan Foreign School from Minneapolis Public Schools. She has been teaching for 17 years now. Mrs. O’Brien has taught a diverse group of students at all grade levels (K – 12). Mrs. O’Brien has an 18 year old daughter and a loving and supportive husband. She is very excited about teaching at Busan Foreign School.

Originally from a small town in South Mississippi and the first member of her family to attend college, Mrs. Muhammad earned her undergraduate degree in physics from University of Mississippi and her Masters of Arts in Teaching from University of Memphis. Directly following college, Mrs. Muhammad joined Teach for America and taught Special Education at a large urban inner city school in Memphis, Tennessee.

Upon completion of her two year commitment with Teach For America, Mrs. Muhammad joined the founding team at a new charter school in Memphis, TN, Freedom Preparatory Academy. After spending five years as Special Education Director and Dean of Students at Freedom Prep Charter School, Mrs. Muhammad was asked to lead the charge in Freedom Prep’s expansion into elementary education. She became the Founding Head of School for Freedom Prep Charter School- Westwood Campus.

Mrs. Muhammad is excited about joining the team at BFS and looks forward to working with the wonderful students and families. In her free time Mrs. Muhammad likes to read, catch up on her favorite TV shows, spend time with her husband and dogs, Mo and Polo. A fun fact about Mrs. Muhammad is her and her husband, Rabb, will welcome their first child in January 2017.

Ms. Jang has been working here at Busan Foreign School for four year after graduating from Hanyang University with a B.A. in English Literature. She is originally from Haeundae, Busan, but moved to Seoul since she had to attend on Hanyang University and lived there while she was in the university. As she studied and worked in U.S.A and Mexico, she improved her communication skills in English and Spanish. In addition, she volunteered in a variety of Children’s English Camps teaching and assisting the children. At Busan Foreign School, she mainly handles with admissions inquiry and all the paperwork regarding the students’ enrollment. In her free time, she enjoys traveling all around the world.

Last year she took the Korea Red Cross certificate for first- aid. Ms. Kim is always ready to help students when they need her.
