Purpose of Community Service

We, at BFS, hold the belief that community service is an integral part of a child’s education. The purpose of this service is to provide students with real-life experiences that challenge them and build their moral character. Indeed, an important component of the type of service students choose to perform is that the tasks benefit others rather than themselves. It is our hope that this service gives the students a few of steps they need towards moral and emotional maturity.

Types of Community Service

There are multiple activities students can choose to achieve their hours for community service; however, BFS groups them into two types: in-school community-service and out of school community service.

Out-of-School Activities

This type of activity is not just any service done outside of the school campus. There will be numerous school-sanctioned activities that will bring us far from the confines of BFS. Community-service activities that are labeled out-of-school are the tasks that are not directly affiliated with Busan Foreign School but still allow a student to earn community-service hours.  Out-of-school service even includes trips to other countries such as Bali and Thailand to work on projects.

In-School Activities

This type of activity is any volunteer or community service done inside or outside the school campus that is supervised by a BFS teacher or administrator. An administrator, teacher, or student is the organizer for this type of service, but only a teacher or administrator are the supervisors, including activities that are initiated or organized by a student or group of students.
